Real patients. Real recoveries.
The truest measure of a surgeon is not a certificate on the wall. It is a grandmother back in her kitchen, a cricketer back on the field, a morning walk resumed after years. These are some of those moments.
Every story here is shared with the patient's consent.
After eight years of knee pain, a morning walk again.
Severe osteoarthritis had worn his right knee down to bone on bone. Climbing the stairs at home took minutes, and the daily walk along the Tapi riverfront had stopped years ago.
Six weeks after surgery he was back on the riverfront, walking four kilometres without a stick, without pain, and without thinking about his knee.
“I had forgotten what it felt like to walk without planning every step. Now I finish my morning round before my friends do.”
Both knees, one recovery, and a kitchen she runs again.
Before
Arthritis in both knees had bent her legs outward over the years. She needed a hand to rise from a chair, had given up sitting on the floor, and cooked leaning against the kitchen platform.
The procedure
Both knees were replaced in a single planned admission, an option chosen after a full fitness assessment so she would face one anaesthesia and one recovery instead of two.
Recovery
She walked with a walker on day two and climbed a flight of stairs before discharge. Physiotherapy continued at home, with progress reviewed at every follow-up.
Today
Three months on, her legs are straight for the first time in a decade. She manages her kitchen, visits the temple and no longer plans her day around her knees.
Kokilaben Shah, 71, Vesu, Surat. Bilateral Knee Replacement.
“The plan was clear from day one, what happens each month and when I could bowl again. I trusted the process and it worked.”
Rohan Desai, 24, Athwa, Surat. ACL Reconstruction.
From a twisted landing to the next season's squad.
Before
A club cricketer, he landed awkwardly while fielding and felt his knee give way. An MRI confirmed a complete ACL tear, and with it the fear that his playing days were over.
The procedure
Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction using his own hamstring tendon as the graft, performed through keyhole incisions with the meniscus preserved.
Recovery
A structured rehabilitation programme with clear monthly milestones, from regaining full extension to running, then cutting drills, then a formal return-to-sport assessment.
Today
Cleared to play at nine months, he returned for the full club season, batting, bowling and fielding without a brace and without hesitation.
A fall at 78, and back on his feet within days.
“At my age everyone said a broken hip means bed rest for life. I was standing the very next day.”
Ramanbhai Patel, 78, Navsari. Hip Fracture Surgery.
Before
A slip in the bathroom left him with a fractured hip and unable to stand. His family feared what a broken hip means for a man his age, months in bed and the complications that follow.
The procedure
Surgery within 48 hours of the fall, with a hip replacement chosen to suit his bone quality so he could put full weight on the leg immediately.
Recovery
He stood the very next day. Early walking protected his lungs, his strength and his confidence, and he was home within a week.
Today
At six weeks he was walking with a cane around his home and garden, independent in his daily routine and back at the head of the family dining table.
A year of night pain, resolved through three small portals.
Before
A keen badminton player, he had lived with shoulder pain for over a year. He could no longer lift his arm to serve, and the ache woke him every night.
The procedure
Arthroscopic repair of the torn rotator cuff through three keyhole portals, done as a short-stay procedure with the joint fully inspected during surgery.
Recovery
A sling for the first few weeks while the repair healed, followed by guided physiotherapy that rebuilt motion first and strength after.
Today
Five months later he was back on the badminton court. More importantly, he sleeps through the night, something a year of tablets never gave him.
Nileshbhai Kapadia, 52, Piplod, Surat. Shoulder Arthroscopy.
Hundreds of patients across Surat and South Gujarat have shared their experience in their own words.
